For quite a while I had been looking into getting a really good quality DMM for my workshop. I needed something with a reasonably high level of accuracy and functionality but with an affordable price tag. For me, it's proved to be the UT8805E. This does everything I need and it looks really nice too with its clear, sharp, readable display and ergonomic buttons.

I have watched many review videos and read a ton of articles on various models that I had considered in the recent past. In doing so, I learned that many seasoned repair techs compare the UT8805E to the trusty HP 34401A - but with a better display and more features. I considered this to be a very persuasive recommendation, and so I bought one.

It's surprisingly weighty and feels well put together but the thought that's gone into making it relatively easy and intuitive to use is very much appreciated. When concentrating on my work, I don't have to keep a manual in my head to get to where I need to be for the task at hand ; especially with amount of available on-screen help. That's a definite bonus. Being able to link to a computer for data logging is going to come in very useful for monitoring equipment on soak test. Something I will no doubt come to use more and more in my work.

So, the UT8805E is set to get a lot of use on my bench where having the accuracy and reliability of a high quality Uni-T instrument, for me, is an investment in "peace of mind". It's one less "x" factor in solving the equation of a tricky problem.

Thoroughly recommended for anyone who needs a superb piece of test gear for a very reasonable cost.
